I'm Feeling Very Oprah...
I can't stand malls.  I'd rather find a cool vintage italian blazar at the Claire Foundation Thrift Shop on Pico than Macy's on the Third Street Promenade.  So when I recommend something, you can bet that it's not only worth your hard earned duckets but you'll have fun while you're buying it. Here are some of my favorite picks.

David of Tarantula Clothing's new Cropped Weekend Jacket
in HiFi red (as sported by Fred Wilmot, Canadian rockabilly at the Silver Lake Film Fest's wrap party). Available at My Baby Jo's.

"Lonesome Spurs" CD by the Lonesome Spurs, Danny Harvey and Lynda Kay Parker. I espeically love the tracks "My Home", which I listen to frequently, and their version of Glen Glenn's "One Cup of Coffee" featuring Glen Glenn!

Lalo Guerrero DVD: Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano
Produced by Lalo's son and my friend Dan Guerrero, this aired on many PBS stations in the southwest.  The DVD comes with a CD of Lalo's music, all for only 25 bucks!  And it's another self-distributed project!  Hurrah!

Found this on Boingboing from Mitch O'Connell:

Great totes featuring legendary Sun records 45s from Sun Record Company.  I got the "That's All Right" totebag.  Only $9.99!
I used this tote at SXSW to haul 1,000 postcards up and down Sixth Street and Congress and it never showed even the slightest sign of strain. Zipper top turned out to be really convenient too.  These totes are great!

I Recommend LA Day Tripping:
Griffith "Rebel Without a Cause" Observatory
&
Autry Museum of the West

Griffith Observatory is open again with a slew of new features.  Always a great day in LA and fun views of the city.

Very nearby is the Autry Center's Museum of t
he American West. a must for anyone who loves American cowboy culture as well as the real history of the Amercan West.  Both spots great for kids, too.

Kewl Hollywood Hostel

Starting at 25
bucks a night, this great spot is right off Hollywood Blvd. and full of interesting visitors.  Click on the image for the web link.
